Well the ballot came, saw and conquered Corpus.
And after all that strife no one had to choose D7b! #corpusdefeatstheballot Much appreciated was the ballot reference in the freshers play, you answered all the questions, like to potato or not to potato? Survey stats and awards to come!

It's like a TkMaxx sale - not much, and nothing you want.
The reserve list has now been totally filled meaning the remaining people on the ballot must choose from the rooms left over. 8 rooms still remain at the time of writing - 5 in Bene't, 1 in Botolph, 1 in Beldham and the dreaded D7b. However with only 7 freshers left, one of these rooms will remain unoccupied. Will people's fear of D7b keep in unoccupied or will someone run the gauntlet in order to be in New Court?
A small analysis of the last rooms:
Current prediction: All except a Bene't room to go It's Ben Hanson's turn on the Room Ballot and there's a rather bemusing review of his current room (excerpt below):
"Oh, also, I should probably mention the frequency with which Medicine students congregate outside your door in anticipation of supervisions just across the corridor. I don’t know how or in what way timetables change from year to year as regards Medicine students but this used to happen at 10am every Saturday without fail. It isn’t what I would consider to be a neg but does require an occupant’s being forewarned. If, again, like me, you like to reserve Saturday mornings for especially ambitious renditions of Marvin Gaye’s ‘Sexual Healing’ then just be aware that there is probably a whole host of bemused listeners on the other side of your acoustically-porous door. (On one very fruity occasion I went for ‘Loving You’ by Minnie Riperton and nearly vomited with embarrassment at the laughs I earned in attempting to nail that particular whistle register)." The room is still up for grabs, freshers... Alastair Benn seems to have copied in a translation of Thus Spake Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche. All 11,265 words of it. I managed to eat 10 Ritz crackers while copying it over to a word doc.
Not sure whether it should qualify for "Longest room review", unless there's some meta-meaning that I'm missing? 2nd Year news galore...
Newnham hot cakes selling fast and it seems there are lines being drawn with the formation of The Heap corridor. While Newnham is proving popular there are no 2nd years in New Court while there are quite a few rooms available (and not just D7b). Engineers in T Street with a few bio natscis (understandable really). If you're sick of proctawaiting then how about trying procrastabating (suggested by a certain fresher). Apparently a much more satisfying way to pass the time. Fresher angst "I despise everyone above me with a passion" Scores stand:
Newnham - 8 (rooms chosen) T-street - 7 A close contest! While we've been gone, the ballot has moved on. After an overnight delay due to my dear college husband most of the tail end of the 3rd year ballot were forced onto the reserve list.
I applaud the freshers so far - they've been keeping the ballot going efficiently and we're seeing normal signs of Newnham/TStreet colonisation. We received a tip-off that freshers were aiming for S staircase domination and it looks like they've been successful in their campaign. I like to think of the ballot as a multi-dimensional game of would you rather... If you come up with a good 'would you rather' (send them in!) I may be inclined to pop some chocolate in your pidge (or alternative small snack if you're a good bunny and have given up chocolate). Also haikus. I like haikus. Send us your room ballot themed haikus! Going on the reserve list at 10th!!! A very risky (or genius?) move by Oliver:
84.Oliver CanessaTue 10th Mar3:45pm–4:00pmReserve List At position 64 out of 74, Simon has somehow managed to bag E9 in New Court, described a year ago by ex-BNOC Johnny Zemlik as an "Awesome room, nice furniture, lots of space, the open fireplace gives it a grandiosity that other rooms of the size in new court lack! Good for parties, god knows I've had a few in their!"
Can anyone beat Simon to this award? 57.Cheryl FooTue 10th Mar9:00am–9:15am8TS 5
58.Tom WorsfoldTue 10th Mar9:15am–9:30amG 8 59.Jamie ParkerTue 10th Mar9:30am–9:45amG 9 Cheryl and Jamie both go for the room they are currently in, whilst Tom goes back to his fresher roots with G8! What is strange, is how they all did this after each other. Are those near the bottom of the ballot deciding just to stick to what they know best? One ensuite left in Botolph!
Meanwhile it looks like there are the beginnings of a DOTA corner... With Nik in Botolph 6 and Tom in Botolph 7, will Jake be able to join them? Nik's dedication to DOTA is such that the delay while it was his turn to pick was due to him playing DOTA #devoted Though Botolph and TStreet are proving popular with 2nd years, Felix is the first to choose Benet. The freshers aren't *that* bad guys... ;) Dominic goes for N2, a whopping £2009 on extended lease - despite it's darkness being heavily noted. Still, near the latter end of the 3rd year ballot - but going 2nd last year - Dom may well have grabbed a rough diamond.
Let's just say, I'm certainly heading there for parties each week. Interestingly there is still one Old Court room remaining - M6! The highs and the lows of New Court remain to be chosen: C1 and D7b... Will a 2nd year choose D7b or will it be left to the freshers??? Finally chooses G5 though... a grand choice for the Male Welfare Officer to be - 2nd and 3rd years will know of the delightful teas a certain tall Cameron provided in that splendid room - until two of the settees were broken :(
As y staircase and Old Court disappear, there have been an influx of new court choices. Those going are the very large rooms with a lovely view of New Court. There are many New Court rooms left though.
Interestingly, Ed has made a wise move for the reserve list... winning our 'Ballot Gambler Award' by default. However, at 37th it appears a safe bet - he's very likely to have a fair pick of top rooms to choose from this summer. 27.Patrick KilloranMon 9th Mar3:30pm–3:45pmG 10 28.Sujit GnanakumarMon 9th Mar3:45pm–4:00pmD 7a 29.Luke BailyMon 9th Mar4:00pm–4:15pmG 6 30.Adrien YeungMon 9th Mar4:15pm–4:30pmP 4a 31.Tom AndrewsMon 9th Mar4:30pm–4:45pmX 6 32.Matthew BallMon 9th Mar4:45pm–5:00pmR 4 33.George WildersMon 9th Mar5:00pm–5:15pmH 4 34.Nik SloanMon 9th Mar5:15pm–5:30pmBotolph6 35.Constance KrarupMon 9th Mar5:30pm–5:45pmH 9 36.Noa Lessof GendlerMon 9th Mar5:45pm–6:00pmH 10 37.Ed TozerMon 9th Mar6:00pm–6:15pmReserve List Tom clearly favoured proximity to college over rolling out of bed into Engineering... In other news Simon was seen commenting on Imy's choice of room: "he's calling to you"
From "Simonides the Wise": "Is there anyway we can appeal to have the photos of the rooms redone. Half of them look like theyve been taken with a potato (#noah4catering), the other half are so zoomed in I can't tell what I'm looking at. I have a wide angle lens, I will do this myself if necessary..."
Well Simondes the Wise - I suggest lobbying the new VP who is elected tomorrow. Will it be Bret, Nancy or Tom? With news that Patrick is in labs, Matt Ball is on the verge of recreating that scene from the Red Wedding. Heaven help us.
UPDATE: Matt has tweeted "Red wedding incoming #RoomBallotWoes #Matt4Ents" you've been warned Imy eventually went for T2 though she did have a perusal of P4a... Mark took a while and kept us all waiting... Which made some people angry... Jasmine, as predicted, went to TStreet while Bret took the last Y room - Y oh Y did you take the last Y?!
Joe decided to join Mark above the legendary Buxton. There's a lot of stress here in hall at the mo. Keep calm and carry on! We could be looking at a hold-up here guys. Unlike Aurelien's deliberate delay, Imogen has a slightly more legitimate reason - last minute room viewings. Rumour has it she's taking a look at rooms in P, T and X - what will she decide??? For all you freshers out there: it's generally preferable to look at rooms *before* your turn on the room ballot ;)
Also Bret has a lecture at 12 so we're not expecting much action over here. PS Is it Imy or Immy? Someone tell me! In a stunning turn of events TStreet rooms are being taken by 3rd years! Clearly the lure of freezers grasped Jack and Beth - we shall have to see if this trend continues.
Other news is that Millie & Sophie are neighbours once again, clearly they can't bear to live apart <3 5 Old Court and 1 Y rooms remaining... INSIDER PREDICTION NO. 2: Imogen for Library Court, Mark for New Court, Jasmine for TStreet ??? Spent 20 minutes doing this on his turn...
Aurelien takes N5, same as Caitlin
Sophie takes P5 Noah takes Y7 - the last remaining en-suite in college, apparently with "the best view in college". WHY Y? The availability of en-suites, a fantastic kitchen and great views of Kings have meant Y has been the most popular staircase this year. Only Y2 left! P staircase is popular too though - expect it to go very soon... I kid you not.
